New Heaven Official’s Blessing Short Film (2/3)
Take a look at the new Heaven Official’s Blessing short film from Bilibili! This donghua short is absolutely gorgeous, full of beautiful music, gorgeous visuals (the fish lantern at the beginning!). You can see the first one here.
I love how sweet, sexy, and poignant this film is. It’s a post-epilogue extra from the book, and it shows the beautiful aftermath of the conclusion of the story. This film includes both the romantic and suggestive references in that extra, although it mutes the spicier suggestiveness just a touch, while the most romantic element requires a bit of lip reading in Chinese. For those who have read the book this shouldn’t be difficult at all, and for those who haven’t I am confident that the romantic tone still conveys quite well.
It looks like we’ll be getting a third short film too later this month, which is wonderful news in some ways. This series of short films seems to be hitting many of the most significant story elements and offering some meaningful closure to the story arc. I just fear this may be a consolation prize from Bilibili in lieu of getting season 3 of the donghua.
